“Neo-Traditional is a really interesting style to me. During my career I have seen it morph and evolve into different things . To me it originally meant “ New Traditional” tattooing , as in true old style traditional tattoos with modern subject matter. It then became more Art Nouveau influenced : very detailed, flowing compositions with fine details with a thick bold outline encasing the whole thing. One of my favorite artists from the 19thc. , Alphonse Mucha was a pioneer in this style of drawing. His work is very tattooable and is a big influence for sure. So I suppose now for me its a combination of both; bold, yet detailed tattoo images that reference natural forms. Not quite realism, and not quite really stripped down vintage carnival tattoos. Somewhere in between. Japanese artwork is also in line with this way of laying things out. I always enjoy doing things in a Neo Traditional tattoo style!
